Day 2, June 13, 2016: Texas Downs White Sox In 15

TBL S1 Standings After 2 Games

After blowing a 4-0 lead in the 9th inning, the Texas Rangers used a walk-off Delino DeShields single to finish off the Chicago White Sox in the 15th inning. Leonys Martin led off the inning with a single and took second on a steal. DeShields obliged with a drawn-in outfield, finding the gap with a line drive. Earlier in the game, Elvis Andrus doubled home 2 runs to stake the Rangers to a 4-0 lead.

Yet while Cole Hamels worked into the 9th, the Rangers ran into trouble after handing the ball off to Shawn Tolleson. The closer gave up a 3-run home run to Jose Abreu to tie the game. After extending the game, the White Sox only mustered 3 further hits and Carlos Rodon picked up the loss.

Other Action

  • A 6th inning two-out grand slam by Nick Hundley propelled Colorado to a 6-3 final score versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Jose Reyes tacked on a 2-run home run in the 8th for insurance, helping Chad Bettis earn his first victory of the young season. Lance Lynn took the loss for the Cardinals.
  • Zach Greinke dominated the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing 5 hits while striking out 9 in a 3-1 victory. Justin Turner provided all the offense the Dodgers needed, homering to left in the 4th inning off Taylor Jungmann. Kenley Jansen struck out the side in the 9th for his first save.
  • Daniel Norris gave up 2 runs on 3 hits to earn the win as Detroit defeated Kansas City 7-2. Miguel Cabrera and Jose Iglesias each drove in two runs for the Tigers, who chased Johnny Cueto in the 6th inning.
  • The Cubs ensured their 2-0 start to the season with a 9-3 drubbing of the Minnesota Twins. Dan Haren pitched the complete game for Chicago. Kris Bryant delivered the standout performance for the Cubs offensively, driving in 4 runs on two homers and a sacrifice fly.
