As seen on our YouTube channel, home runs from Adrian Gonzalez, Chase Utley, and Joc Pederson helped the Los Angeles Dodgers improve to 6-1 on the season with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Cubs.
Zack Greinke pitched 7 1/3 innings for the victory, giving up only 3 hits to the Cubs. Dan Haren, pitching for Chicago, was hurt by having 3 of the 4 hits surrendered fly over the wall.
Miguel Montero also homered for the Cubs, who lost for only the second time this season.
In other action:
- Also covered on the video channel, the Rockies used extra innings to overcome the Tigers 6-4 in 10 innings. Carlos Gonzalez and Brandon Barnes each singled in a run in the 10th of Neftali Feliz, putting Colorado up for good. Detroit’s Alex Wilson was credited with the loss, while closer John Axford earned the victory for the Rockies.
- A Tyler Flowers error in the 7th inning allowed Eric Hosmer to score the winning run for Kansas City as they beat the Chicago White Sox 5-4. The Sox battled back from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead on a 3-run home run from Jose Abreu. But Alex Gordon tied it up with a solo shot, and Flowers’ error handed starter Chris Sale the loss. Luke Hochevar pitched 2 strong innings for the victory in relief, while Greg Holland grabbed his 2nd save of the season.
- Milwaukee downed Tommy Milone and the Minnesota Twins 6-1. Hernan Perez reached with 3 doubles, and Jason Rogers bashed a 2-run home run to lead the Brewers offensively. Taylor Jungmann came through with a complete game 6-hitter for the win.
- The Rangers provided Cole Hamels with plenty of run support in his second start, earning the 8-2 triumph over St. Louis. Hamels gave up 4 hits on the day, with the only real blemish being a 2-run homer to Jhonny Peralta in the 1st inning to fall behind. But Rougned Odor tied the game in the 5th off Lance Lynn, and Prince Fielder knocked in the game winning run on a double. Mitch Moreland had 2 home runs and 4 RBI in this one.
