Gameday 9: 3 Game Videos, Full Standings and Statistics

The pulls of life have slid the priority of reporting the Ten-acious Baseball League results a little bit down on the list. The TBL continues to churn on at its own beautiful pace, and we’re through Gameday 9. Perhaps the best way to keep up with the league is through our YouTube channel, click on the link there and subscribe. I will continue to post at least 1 game video per “day,” and perhaps more.

For Gameday 9, we’ve recorded 3 games for your viewing:

Chicago Cubs (Hammel) at Los Angeles Dodgers (Wood)

Chicago White Sox (Samardzija) at Kansas City Royals (Ventura)

Texas Rangers (Lewis) at St. Louis Cardinals (Wacha)

So at this point, here are the updated standings for the TBL, through games played on June 20, 2016:

At some point, I may come up with a full set of scheduled games & results to post here. I have been recapping the games, but unless I’m in the mood it’s tough to set aside time for that when I could be rolling. Find below a lot more information on league leaders and a statistical breakdown of each team. This season is too far along to start considering split statistical tracking, so maybe in future seasons I’ll try to incorporate that into the legwork. If I go back to using a program like BallStat (which I tried before, and might spend a few days entering game data), I’ll definitely have more of that data at my avail to post.

Here are the updated standings & statistics:

Day 5: Twins Win! Minnesota Shuts Out The Royals

TBL Standings (5G)

The last winless team in the TBL is winless no more.

Phil Hughes (1-0) threw 8 scoreless innings to earn his Twins the 3-0 victory against the Royals. An early home run by Torii Hunter set Minnesota on the right course. The Twins squeezed out two more runs in the 4th inning, one on a Trevor Plouffe single, and the other on a 3-base error on Alex Rios.

Jeremy Guthrie ceded only 4 hits to Minnesota in the loss, notching a complete game for his efforts.

In Other Action:

  • Adam LaRoche and Tyler Saladino sparked the White Sox to a 5-4 victory over Los Angeles. Both players homered to drive in all 5 runs for Chicago, helping Erik Johnson to earn his first win of the season. The Dodgers endured their first loss of the season, with Scott van Slyke grounding out to LaRoche with runners on 1st and 2nd to end the game.
  • Colorado bounced back from their 8 run collapse in Milwaukee yesterday to outscore the Brewers 11-8. The back-and-forth affair was highlighted by Carlos Gonzalez’s 2 home run performance for the Rockies. Scott Oberg was the winning pitcher in relief, while Jeremy Jeffress got battered for 4 runs in the 8th inning to claim credit for the loss. Khris Davis slammed his 4th home run in 3 days in the losing cause.
  • The Rangers ran their record to 3-2 with a 5-4 triumph at home against the Cubs. Mitch Moreland’s 3-run home run opened up the lead to 4-0 off starter Kyle Hendricks (0-1), but Chicago fought back through long balls by Miguel Montero and Jorge Soler. But Shawn Tolleson worked around a lead-off double in the 9th to save the game for  Derek Holland.
  • St. Louis rode starter Carlos Martinez’s 7-hit complete game shutout of Detroit, 9-0. Brandon Moss and Stephen Piscotty both went yard with 2-run dingers to trounce the Tigers. Alfredo Simon was rocked for 6 runs in only 2 innings of work, a disappointing start to his season.

With 5 of 54 games played thus far, the Dodgers and Cubs both sit atop the Ten-acious Baseball League with a 4-1 record. Both teams are off to a hot start while enduring a road trip to begin the season. Rounding out the top four are the Cardinals and Rockies at 3-2, with Texas and Kansas City out of the playoff picture on account of their run differential.

Day 1, June 12, 2016 – Dodgers Dominate Brewers Early

TBL Game 1

As the Ten-acious Baseball League opened play for the 2016 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers gifted starter Clayton Kershaw (1-0)  a 6 run advantage in the 1st inning on 4 straight singles to lead off the game. The dominant left-hander proceeded to strike out 11 Brewers while giving up 3 runs in a complete game 6-3 victory at Miller Park. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in the victory, while Brewer starter Jimmy Nelson (0-1) overcame his rocky 1st inning to settle down and relinquish no further runs in his own complete game 8 strike out performance.

Deep in the heart of Texas, the Chicago White Sox started off their season in style with a 4-2 victory over the Rangers. A Melky Cabrera double plated 2 runs in the 5th inning to put the Sox ahead for good. Jose Quintana went 8 innings to earn the victory, while Yovani Gallardo was chased in the 5th inning. Prince Fielder hit his 1st home run of the year in the loss.

The Colorado Rockies took it to John Lackey (0-1) and the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, earning a 5-2 victory. Jorge de la Rosa (1-0) yielded only 3 hits in 8 scoreless innings for the victory. Lackey conceded all 5 runs in only 5 2/3 innings of work.

The other Windy City team, the Cubs, took care of Minnesota 7-3 with little trouble. Staff ace Jake Arrieta pitched a complete game, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits while striking out 6. Miguel Montero drove in 3 runs courtesy of a 2-run home run and a sacrifice fly, while Starlin Castro hit a solo shot in the 1st. Kyle Gibson got the loss for the Twins.

In the final game of the day, the Royals topped the Tigers 7-3. After going down early, Detroit fired back to tie the game at 3 on a Victor Martinez 3-run home run in the 6th inning. But Kansas City hung tough, and benefited from a a ball that squirted through Anthony Gose’s legs, bringing home Jarrod Dyson for the decisive run. The Royals struck for 14 hits against the Tigers, with Edinson Volquez getting the victory.
